Valves are important components in Penstocks line to control the water flow. As a control device, its function is to connect or cut off the water circulation inside penstocks, adjust or reduce the pressure of waterflow & protect the normal operation of penstocks equipments. They are operated either in “Manual Way or with Electric & Hydraulic Actuators”
The common valves for Hydro Penstocks are :

- Gate Valve
- Butterfly Valve
- Bonneted Gate Valve
- Needle Valve
- Fixed Cone Valves
- Spherical Valves

The main Valve Equipment in Dam & Hydro Power are the butterfly valve & Hollow Jet Valve. However, other ordinary valves & instruments like Gate Valve, Dismantling Joint & Equalizing System are also frequently used.
